William McGaughey for Attorney General of Minnesota
a candidate of the Independence Party in 2010
"to know the truth that will set us free"
Note: Did not file for this office; ran instead for lieutenant governor with Bob Carney in the 2010 Republican primary
My fellow Minnesotans,
Like many others, I believe that our nation is held in the grip of official deceptions regarding the facts of the 9/11 attacks and that this misunderstanding continues to have a harmful influence upon our foreign policy and the type of nation that we have become.
I come to this conclusion not from ideological conviction or an eagerness to believe in “conspiracy theories” but because a group of independent scholars has assembled a body of evidence that points overwhelmingly to the likelihood that controlled demolitions, and not just hijacked-airliner attacks, brought down the twin towers of the World Trade Center in the morning of September 11, 2001. The nearby “Building Seven”, which was not hit by an airplane, fell in like manner later in the day.
In the aftermath of those incidents, we Americans have been subjected to a massive suppression and falsification of evidence in the official report of the 9/11 Commission and of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. There appears to be a continuing network of individuals and groups within the nation’s political leadership and security apparatus, abetted by major news media, that is determined to prevent the facts about 9/11 to be communicated or taken seriously. In our polarized political environment, persons who seek to expose the truth are demonized. I have a plan to free us from this monstrous situation.
I am running for Attorney General of Minnesota with an explicit promise to Minnesota voters to use this office to sue the U.S. Government, the Commission members and staff, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology, for having knowingly issued false reports. In the process, I hope to expose the key players in this fraud, establish the true facts regarding the 9/11 catastrophe, and gain a court decision that will have credibility with the news media and the American people.
I am not an attorney but there is no statutory requirement for a candidate for Attorney General in Minnesota to be one. I run under the banner of Minnesota’s Independence Party, the party of Jesse Ventura who, coincidentally, has a book titled “American Conspiracies” on the New York Times best-seller list. Small bands of 9/11 truth seekers are active throughout the state. They are, in my estimation, true patriots who are rendering to our country a most valuable service.
For those Minnesotans who do not doubt the office version of the 9/11 story, I would believe that patriotism and love of country are also an element in your position. The idea that the U.S. government could be directly involved in carrying out or covering up a murderous attack on Americans on our own soil is indeed mind-boggling. It certainly requires significant proof. If elected Attorney General, I would begin an inquiry into allegations made by leading 9/11 truth seekers such as David Ray Griffin not with the aim of proving their argument but providing a full disclosure of facts. It will then be up to the courts to decide where the truth lies.
Minnesotans of whatever political persuasion, please accept that you and your fellow citizens are bigger than the government or any of its intelligence and security agencies. You are not morally bound to past actions undertaken by them in your name. It is never too late to admit mistakes. Our state and nation will be better off now for facing up to difficult questions and letting the truth be our guide.
William McGaughey, candidate for Minnesota Attorney General
Why the Minnesota Attorney General's office?
The logical person to initiate an investigation would be President Barack Obama. During his campaign for President, then Senator Obama vowed to take action on 9/11 issues “…if I found out that there were high officials who knowingly, consciously broke existing laws, engaged in cover-ups of those crimes with knowledge forefront…” As President, he has done nothing of the sort. Neither have Democratic leaders of Congress acted to expose the truth about those horrible crimes committed nine years ago. Federal policy is so disconnected from the interests of the people it seems nothing can be accomplished through our national government. Theoretically, the major news media could conduct their own investigation and publicize the findings. However, when you have the Washington Post editorial board calling for the resignation of a leading member of the Japanese Diet because he wanted the Japanese government to do its own investigation of 9/11, you can see that the national news media are an even more hopeless case.
A poll has shown that 84% of Americans doubted the Bush Administration's version of the truth. That suggests that if a political campaign pledging to prosecute 9/11 crimes through the office of the Minnesota Attorney General might find favor with voters. Certainly, Minnesotans suffered grievously through the 9/11 devastations and their aftermath. Minnesotans were among the nearly 3,000 casualties. Many more have died on the battlefield in wars justified by the 9/11 attacks. Financially, the St. Paul Companies was a major insurer of the World Trade Center towers. I think, therefore, that the Minnesota Attorney General has the standing to sue the federal government on behalf of Minnesota's people. This prosecutorial office is immensely powerful. It has the expertise and resources to finish the job. Give me two years to build a credible case. If I as Attorney General cannot develop a promising lawsuit within that period of time, I pledge to resign and let the Governor appoint my replacement.
A challenge to those who do not doubt the official version of events that took place on September 11th, ask yourself these questions:
(1) The 9/11 Commission said that the World Trade Center towers collapsed because aircraft impact and jet-fuel fires weakened their structure and the weight of collapsing floors at the top brought down the rest of the building. If it were true that jet-fuel fires melted or softened the steel beams, would not one expect the fires to burn unevenly so that a floor or two might collapse on one side of the building before the other floors collapsed? Instead, in both cases - the north and south WTC towers - the entire building collapsed evenly and immediately into their foundation about an hour after the jet-fuel fires had burned, leaving only a small pile of rubble. Ask yourself if this is reasonable. If you have ever seen video of buildings brought down by controlled demolitions, do you not recognize the same situation here? Dan Rather was moved to say when Building Seven collapsed in the late afternoon on Sept. 11th: “Amazing, incredible ... For the third time today, it’s reminiscent of those pictures we’ve all seen on television before, where a building was deliberately destroyed by well-placed dynamite to knock it down.”
Three New York skyscrapers were destroyed on 9/11: World Trade Center building #1 (the north tower), World Trade Center building #2 (the south tower), and WTC Building Seven, a 47-story structure a block away from the towers that housed important government and corporate offices. All three buildings were owned by the same man, a real-estate developer named Larry Silverstein. He had purchased the twin towers from the Port of New York Authority six weeks before the 9/11 attacks and, putting up $114 million of his own money, bought insurance against destruction of the buildings on which he ultimately collected $4.5 billion. The Port Authority had considered dismantling the twin towers because of problems with asbestos but instead sold them to Silverstein at a steep discount. No steel structure in history has ever collapsed due to fires. Is it reasonable to suppose that three large buildings all owned by the same individual all collapsed on the same day for that reason or is it possible that controlled demolitions were responsible? A CBS reporter on the scene told Dan Rather: “When you’re down there, Dan, you hear smaller secondary explosions going off every 15 or 20 minutes.” Numerous police and fire fighters reported similar experiences. A mass of molten steel was later found under the rubble in the sub-basement. For building security, Silverstein had hired a firm managed by close relatives of top U.S. government officials. Shortly before 9/11, the twin towers were briefly vacated for “maintenance” reasons.
I say, there is enough evidence here to doubt the accuracy of the 9/11 Commission report and suggest that a new public inquiry should take place. This is not a conspiracy that has kept the truth concealed but one of obfuscation and intimidation to make people disbelieve the evidence of their own eyes. 9/11 is the ultimate "Emperor's New Clothes" situation.
